Whing Creek Farm is our family farm at Shell Pocket, near El Arish in Far North Queensland. It started with a dream of owning land and living more sustainably, and it has grown into a small herd of grass-fed, hormone-free cattle and a lot of maps.
We farm with regenerative principles. That means looking after the soil first, because healthy soil grows better pasture, healthier cattle and more room for wildlife. It's a long game, and we're learning as we go.
That's where the cartography comes in. I'm a mapper as well as a farmer, so every part of our place is mapped: the Top Paddock, the Bull Ring, the Back Paddock, the cocoa patches and the creek. Our maps help us plan grazing, track changes from season to season and see what's working.
Along the creek we're growing a strip of native revegetation to hold the banks and shade the water, close to a local cassowary corridor. We track it on satellite imagery as it fills in.
Our beef is processed and packed by local butchers. When you buy a pack, you're backing a small family farm working to leave the land better than we found it. And the maps that guide our farm are the same kind I make for other landholders: see Cartography.

From family roasts to weekend barbeques or a quick spaghetti bolognese during the week, buying 1/8 cow has everything you need for a variety of meals across 1-2 months. With approximately 20kg delivered beef per 1/8 cow, there’s plenty of choice for meals across all seasons.

This is an ideal pack for families who love their grass fed beef and want to stock up, with half a cow in the freezer.
As a general guide, a half cow butchered is approximately 80kg of beef delivered.
Family and community
Whing Creek is a family farm, and we're proud to be part of a small rural community.
As part of that, I help our local school with projects like building a weather station. In a small rural school, projects like this mean a lot. They give kids hands-on learning, extra activities they might otherwise miss out on, and a sense of belonging that's good for their wellbeing.
Healthy land and healthy communities go together. For us, that's what regenerative farming is all about.
